We have an amazing group of teenagers and Youth Leaders at First Presbyterian Church. The keystone of our Youth Ministry is found in our emphasis on empowering families and connecting students to an extended Christian family in the church.
All of our teenagers meet together on Sunday morning for Sunday School classes with a "home-grown" curriculum, covering everything from the patriarchs to peer pressure. These classes are taught by an energetic team of adults who love Jesus Christ and love kids.
For 7
th and 8
th graders, a small group breakout time is provided each week for youth to meet with the same adults to help process the bible lesson and encourage one another in their faith journey.
A number of our youth take a deeper look at the Christian life in one of our weekly
10:24 small groups. These groups meet at a variety of times throughout the week and provide an informal time for searching, questioning, and learning to live as an extended Christian family.
We also have activities throughout the year such as: Wednesday Night Explosion, Barefoot Club, Prayer Partner Gatherings, Family Facelift, Ski Trip, Youth Sunday, Senior Banquet, CRUD Day, Basketball teams, and Prayer Vigil. DOXOLOGY, our Youth Choir, meets Wednesday evenings during the school year from 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. We also offer a variety of service opportunities such as: feeding the homeless; tutoring at
Preston Taylor Ministries and with Burundi youth; service projects with
Monroe Harding,
Freedom Recovery,
African Leadership, and
The Bridge Ministry.
In the past we have participated in mission trips to Jamaica; Ecuador; Reynosa and Tijuana, Mexico; the Dominican Republic; Belize; and the Cumberland Mountains. We have built low-income housing in Jackson, Mississippi and along the Gulf Coast since Hurricane Katrina, as well as participated in building projects here in Nashville. Each summer our Junior High youth attend The Great Escape Youth Conference in Cleveland, TN--a pivital event that many mark as the turning point in their walk with Jesus.
Because of the increasing need to support parents of our youth, we frequently sponsor programs for parents and teens together, along with events designed specifically for parents of teens. Please contact the Youth Program Coordinator, Ellie Billington, (615-298-9584 or
ebillington@fpcnashville.org) or Youth Program Administrator, Katy Miller (615-298-9570 or
kmiller@fpcnashville.org) if we can serve you or if you are interested in helping us!
