From the Nursery Coordinator

Welcome to the Nursery of First Presbyterian Church. My name is Karen Fitts, and I'm the Nursery Coordinator. I use my experiences from my many years of teaching pre-school and caring for our children in the nursery to maintain a safe, nurturing environment for your child. Our dedicated nursery staff realizes that you are allowing us to care for your greatest treasure and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve you. We wish to provide your child with an atmosphere of comfort and security while they are in the care of the nursery staff. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 615/298-9519 or e-mail me.

  • Our Wee Angels Room is for infants from 6 weeks to 6 months.Our facility is equipped with swings, exersaucers and many different kinds of stimulating toys for your child's enjoyment. Children find this room to be relaxing and calming with the caring staff.

    Our Baby Doves Room is designed for older babies, who have begun crawling, as an inviting classroom to explore the safe, fun and educational toys that the space has to offer. The space is very open and has plenty of areas where the children can crawl and pull up safely.

    Our Little Lambs Room is a perfect environment for babies who are mobile and ready to explore. The classroom is a large, open space filled with a variety of toys, puzzles, and books. The children in this room love to discover the instruments and play along with the songs.

    Our Rainbow Room  and Sun Room are for younger and older two year olds. Each room is equipped with a kitchen area to stimulate imaginative play for the for the children and many educational toys such as puzzles, stackables and blocks. During the Sunday School hour, we use the Wee Believe lessons for toddlers published by PCUSA, which includes a Bible lesson with activities and music. Sunday School is taught by devoted Volunteer teachers.

    Our Moon Room and Star Room are for set up for preschool aged children. The rooms are learning-center-oriented with an emphasis on self-exploration. During the Sunday School hour, these children are taught a Bible lesson from the Wee Believe Curriculum which includes a story, activities, and music. 3 year olds begin the new Sunday School Season each year with a special Milestone Celebration– Milestone #4 Learning Together. During the celebration, parents join their children for a ceremony where each child receives a children’s Bible and faith stone. Milestone #4 also includes a 4 week parenting series during the Sunday School hour.

    Why Do We Have Pagers?

    Our pager system offers many different features that are helpful to the nursery
    staff and parents. The first priority of our paging system is to locate parents who
    are needed in the nursery by sending a vibration and a simple message letting
    you know why you are needed. We will not allow your child to be upset for
    over ten minutes without contacting you. Our pager system also serves as a
    security measure. Children in the nursery will only be released to the parent
    or designated individual who returns the pager with the corresponding number
    located on the child's nametag.Our pager system is important and expensive;
    therefore, in the case that a pager is lost, you will be asked to replace it.

    VIP Ministry (very important people)

    Parents are needed in our nursery to provide the Christian nurture our youngest children need. Each Sunday our nursery is staffed with paid workers as well as several parent volunteers as part of the VIP ministry. Our VIPs read Bible stories and engage the children in simple faith-building activities.  We ask that each parent set aside one hour twice a year to involve themselves in our nursery as a volunteer. This also gives parents an opportunity to get to know nursery workers, Sunday School teachers, and other families within the church.
