Show Up and Share Day
Bill Akin's adult Sunday School class, the Search Class, had been dreaming of doing a service project right here at FPC. The Children's Education Committee was dreaming of ways to build relationships between children and the older adults. God fulfilled BOTH these dreams with the creation of "Show Up and Share."
"Show Up and Share" is a way for older adults and children to form friendships in Christ. It is a way to recognize the many gifts that each generation has to offer to each other. It is a way for older adults to share something that they love, enjoy or find meaningful and for children to share their wonder and enthusiasm.
During the Sunday School hour on May 16, members of Bill's class were each partnered with one of the children's Sunday School classes. The children were prepared to warmly welcome this special guest for the duration of the class. Each special guest was prepared to share something with the children for about 10-15 minutes during class. Wonderful stories of mission trips, volunteer jobs, favorite Bible verses, beautiful storybooks, relationships with grandparents and memories of Sunday School as a child were some of the things the adults shared with the children.
Many thanks to Bill and his class members for helping make this a very special and meaningful day of Sunday School. We look forward to more "Show Up and Share" days!
