Erika Shapiro - Director of Youth Ministries

Erika Shapiro joined the Youth Staff at First Presbyterian Church in August, 2001 (one month prior to 9/11). She grew up in Memphis and went to college at Rhodes, where she majored in Religious Studies and studied elementary education, too. When she moved to Nashville after school with some of her college roommates, she happened upon the thrill of middle school, and is so thankful to be able to claim God's faithfulness in her own life, in part, because of what her favorite teenagers teach her.

She married Jeremy in August, 2005, whom she met on a blind date that was set up by a seventh grade boy in the youth group who thought they might make a good match. She loves Jeremy a lot and has so much fun with him, even when they aren't doing anything. She is grateful for all of the many ways he reveals God's heart to her, and looks forward to knowing more and more who He is because of Jeremy's presence in her life.

Jeremy and Erika became the proud and loving parents of baby Isaac on January 23, 2008 and feel so blessed with this precious gift that God brought into their world. Erika delights in how her identity changed in such a short time from "Erika Emerick" to "Erika Shapiro" to now, "Isaac's Mom"! They also have two dogs, Nala and Stella, and though they have brought quite a bit of chaos to life at the Shapiro house, they are fun additions to the family.

Erika espcially looks forward every year to Ski Trips and Mission Trips, especially Mexico on Spring Break and the Great Escape, which are always amazing experiences. She loves driving 15-passenger vans through the mud, hanging out with teenagers, full moons, eating popsicles with real fruit in them, and singing in the shower. One of her favorite things about her job is that she is so often amazed to see how God is at work within His creation.

One of her favorite Bible verses is: "Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen." Ephesians 3: 20-21
